The European Section of the ICCD (International Committee of Deaf Chess) is committed to promoting chess among deaf players across Europe. Our mission is to foster inclusion, competition, and camaraderie within the deaf community through the game of chess.
History:
At the European Congress of the ICCD, held in Córdoba in 2022, the creation of the European Section was democratically agreed upon. This was an essential step toward enhancing chess in Europe by granting the section greater organizational autonomy. This autonomy enables more effective management of activities and events specifically tailored for deaf players. After years of global efforts, the ICCD was restructured into continental sections to better address the specific needs of each region and to encourage broader participation.
The European Section is guided by a dedicated team of leaders who work collectively to expand chess opportunities and strengthen the community of deaf players across Europe. The team consists of:
- Egle Marcinkeviciene (Lithuania) – President
- Alfredo Gómez Fernández (Spain) – Secretary
- Barry David (England) – Board Member
- Aleksander Kubin (Poland) – Board Member
This leadership team was democratically elected at the European Congress, ensuring that the voices and interests of deaf players throughout Europe are well represented.
